Windows .Net Server Release Delay Possible | |

Thanks Andy. Microsoft may delay release of some products, including the next version of Windows for server computers, to improve the security features of those products, Vice President Cliff Reeves said. About 7,000 engineers in the Windows operating-system, word-processing and e-mail product groups are in security training, Reeves said. That, and the need to fix any security flaws that are found, may result in delays. Last week, Chairman Bill Gates sent an e-mail to employees saying Microsoft must make security a higher priority than new features. | I have absolutely no problem if its delayed as far as six months. Security and stability by far outweigh any new features and timelines. Any of the companies that are positioning themselves for .net known this and believe me while not enthused to have a delay-they will be able better their positions and further justify their use of MS software because the IT managers will be able to claim solid reasons for the purchasing of MS software namely security. (MS already has done a good {while by no means perfect} job making their products stable.) If the .net server is released and for the first year there aren’t any glaring security issues(code red, nimna); then I will judge the delay to be well worth it. Also, its just a delay-in the scheme of things delays aren’t huge as long as the product does ship within 2 quarters of when it was supposed to be released. |
