Microsoft Corp. said it is readying an online marketplace, code-named Fremont, which is apparently in response to a similar feature that rival Google Inc. introduced a few weeks ago. Fremont is a free service in which people contribute listings, whether it's about a couch for sale or someone looking for a commuting partner. Microsoft plans to index each item, thereby adding it to the results from using Microsoft's Internet search engine. | ||

FYI for those of you who don't live in the Seattle area.... Fremont is called "The Center of The Universe" and is home to flea markets, cafe's, restaurants, shops, Adobe, Getty Images and many other attractions. It's a perfect name for a craigslist type of site.

| I guess Google is just better at announcing projects a month or so before Microsoft (mapping, library, local listings, social network, etc. etc. etc.). |

Todd,
I suppose the fact that Google copied Yahoo with that search idea and that they copied Craigslist doesn't register with you. Google is just another big business well financed company not unlike Microsoft. You can rest assured that Google will also beat Microsoft historically by becoming universally disliked in far less years than it took Microsoft to fall from favor. |
