Microsoft loses money on each Xbox | |

The cost of building a Microsoft Xbox 360 video game console is nearly 40 percent higher than the retail price, technology and microchip research company iSuppli said on Wednesday. The firm estimated the total cost to manufacture and test a premium Xbox 360, the software giant's sleek and powerful new gaming machine, which debuted on Tuesday, was $552.27, compared with its retail price of $399. Microsoft aims to sell about 5.5 million premium and lower-priced basic Xbox 360 units by the end of June. The machine will compete with the PlayStation 3 from Sony and Nintendo's Revolution, each due out in 2006. | ||

| It's a good thing they have their two cash cows to subsidise such huge losses! I guess it doesn't matter how much money you lose as long as you can make Sony gaming go broke. |

| It is common for all consoles to lose money. Money is made on the games and other services. It is no different when the PS2 or Xbox came out. The longer they are out there the less the loss will be and eventually they will make money when they sell the hardware. If anything Sony has been doing it a lot longer then MS so they have only themselves to blame. Now lets see what the PS3 is going to cost. |
