Millions of consumers with new Microsoft Windows XP-equipped computers remain oblivious to a gaping security hole that could trigger the next wave of computer viruses, security experts say. Of concern is a "universal plug-and-play" feature Microsoft activated in Windows XP to make it easier for consumers to link two or more PCs to a common printer, music player and other devices in a home network of electronic appliances. However, the new feature also leaves any Windows XP computer connected to the Internet vulnerable to intruders. | ||

| #13 There are not absolute "secure OS" or "secure safes" or "secure encription sytems". By definition nothing we create is 100% secure because whatever you can build someone else can disassemble, understand the concept behind and break it. If Linux was installed on 90% of the exisiting computers the hackers would concentrate their attention to Linux instead that MS OS. Think about radar and radar detectors, it is always a catch-up game. |

Weiser makes a shitty doorlock compared to Schlage. But if I buy a Weiser lock and someone breaks into my home and steals the television set who should we hold accountable first and foremost? Was it Weiser's fault, or that of the burglar? I vote we hold the vendor responsible when we start holding the burglars responsible. Right now they get off scot free and think it's a lark to attack computers. What do you think? 10 years mandatory? Permanent exile from using computers? Death penalty? |

Good point soda. I totally agree with you. THe reason computers are attacked so much is because there is absolutely NO punishment for it.
I like the death penalty option myself but then again I am from Texas so go figure. |

#21 - Heh. I'm actually against the death penalty. I'm from Minnesota which doesn't have it. I was just trying to be somewhat extreme. :)
#22. I like your suggestions. Configuring a secure system is not completely manual, there is quite a bit of automation there. But it's not all in one place, and it should be. |
