As mooresa said, we need to give credit where credit is due. So a big thank you goes out to Google (http://www.google.com/ig), Yahoo (http://my.yahoo.com) and countless others. And of course a big thank you to Mozilla and everyone that's worked on FireFox to get it to where it is today - without it there would be no IE 7 for most people on this site to brag about as the next greatest thing and it's even making Microsoft take note of existing web standards and promising to make Windows Live work in FireFox. |

| Kabuki, can you please stop saying that IE 7 is only coming "thanks" to firefox because it's not true. IE 7 might be coming to XP thanks to firefox, but Vista was getting IE 7 with or without firefox. |

| chris, also Microsoft has been working on start.com (which is basically what the live site is) before Google did anything similar. |

#3 It's Chris, and I'd love to, but unfortunately we disagree. IE 7 IS only coming out as a direct response to Firefox - Microsoft's original plans were to, as you mentioned, include it with Longhorn (at the time) now Vista and change it's name so it wasn't going to be referred to as IE 7. Then Firefox caught on, and they weren't great numbers but enough to make Microsoft stand up and listen to it's customers and offer IE as IE 7 to Vista, XP etc.
#4 What the hell are you talking about? What does the client OS have to do with Google? Let's see - Google runs on linux so it definetely doesn't need Windows to have any market share and clients can access Google with any browser on any OS they like as oppose to the majority of Microsoft's offerings which only run in IE on Windows. #5 Have you got any proof of that? I'm curious as all signs thus far point in the other direction. So yes, live.com is basically start.com (the javascript is in the same pre-beta state - take a look) and Microsoft did put start.com out there for people to play with a while back but before Google did anything similar? As it stands at the moment live.com is a portal (think back a few years to THAT disaster) using AJAX. |
