Intel, Microsoft endorse HD DVD | |

Typical DVDs today can hold 4.7GB of information, but two dueling camps are trying to establish a larger-capacity format that will be allow for the recording of high-definition television and the backing up of more data. HD DVD, supported by a Toshiba-led consortium, is up against Blu-ray Disc, backed by Sony and allies including the two biggest personal computer manufacturers, Hewlett-Packard and Dell. Intel and Microsoft believe weighing in on the HD DVD side will be enough to tip the balance. "We have a high expectation of having a single format, and that format is HD DVD," said Intel spokesman Bill Kircos. | ||

| TL, I'm pretty sure Microsoft has already said they will have an HD-DVD drive in the 360 and its a free* laptop. |

| It doesnt really matter to the consumer anyway. The difference in this and the VHS vs. BETA battle is the media type is close enough that consumer devices will support both, the output will be the same to the consumer. Samsung is already working on a DVD player that supports both HD-DVD and Blue-Ray. Look at all the different types of DVD's there are today DVD: +R, -R , +RAM, -RAM, DL, all the newest drives support them all. When Joe Consumer goes to buy the newly released Star Wars Episode 3 (for the 4th time) for the firs time in High Def, he wont care if its Blue-Ray or HD-DVD...its High Def, thats all that matters. Now, if Microsoft really wanted to make waves, announce the Xbox will have HD-DVD and Blue-Ray support! |
