Microsoft executives discuss Apple competition | |

On Tuesday, September 13, 2005, Microsoft announced to its employees and that it was reorganizing the company into a simpler organization in which executives much further down the chain would have direct decision-making capabilities, allowing the company to move more quickly in this ever-changing market and compete better with companies such as Google and Apple. To explain this change to employees, Microsoft hosted an internal event with CEO Steve Ballmer, chairman Bill Gates, Johnson, Allchin, Raikes, and Bach. | ||

Both Apple and Firefox are trying to emulate the pre-XP SP2 Microsoft:
"Apple Computer Thursday released its latest round of patches for two versions of the Mac OS X operating system. While the 10 bugs range in severity, a Danish security company labeled the fixes as "highly critical." The 10 bugs range in severity, with some able to be exploited remotely via the Apple Safari browser and others available only to malicious users inside a company's network or actually sitting at a vulnerable Mac. Like Microsoft, Apple releases security bulletins and patches for the disclosed vulnerabilities on a monthly schedule. Its bulletins typically contain numerous vulnerabilities; September's tally of 10, however, is far from a record. In August, Apple's 2005-007 bulletin patched more than 40 bugs. "An ever-increasing number of users are adopting Mac OS X. Many of these users believe that this operating system and the applications that run on it are immune to traditional security concerns. Well, the quote, "An ever-increasing number of users are adopting Mac OS X" is just a bit of an exaggeration. While total Mac sales are up 35% year over year for both this last quarter and for nine months, they just went from about 850 thousand units to 1.1 million units a quarter or about 4.5 million units for the year (http://www.apple.com/investor/). In contrast, PC sales are surging to over 206.6 million units this year according to Gartner (http://www.newratings.com/analyst_news/article_982222.html).
So, let's see Macs represent 4.5/206.6 or .02 of the total world wide PC market! Now, that's what I call "ever increasing!" Plonk! By the way, Apple's quarterly report reveals that iPod and music sales account for more than twice the revenue of their computer sales. And if you look back to previous quarterly and annual reports when they didn't sell iPods you would know that the company would be losing money if today they were still only selling Macs (and that's not counting the decreasing prices that they are able to get for each unit). In other words, if this iPod thing doesn't work out for them they are in deep do do! |

Damnit, why do companies still make flashing ads? It's so annoying to look at I actually scroll down so I don't have to see it at all.

| You're going to have security problems on every operating system ever made, any hackers etc get through them and find problems, its just a fact of life. People though OS X was more secure, generally it is, but yes as more people use it then they will find cracks in the armour, just like they have done so much with Windows. Nothing will ever change that. |
