Two days before the start of Professional Developers Conference (PDC) 2005, I've received exclusive insider information about the product editions, or SKUs, which Microsoft intends to create for Windows Vista (codenamed Longhorn). While the exact breakdown of the Windows Vista editions has been the subject of much speculation, this list closely matches the editions list I first published on the SuperSite for Windows last year. What is "Pre-paid access to the Windows Live! Small Business or Microsoft Office Live! subscription services"? Is it something like Windows and Office update?
Also if I buy the "Ultimate" edition I will have "games tweaking" but not "multi-language user interface (MUI)" and "Backup and Shadow Copy support, Castle and server-join networking, and PC fax and scanning utility"? I have a desktop at home I use both for personal and business use so what should I install on it, "Ultra" or "Small Business"? I mean if there is a, surely expensive, "Ultra" edition it should include everything. |

Fritz, did you only read part of the article?
It says flat out that the Ultimate edition will include everything from Home Premium and Pro Premium. |

| No I read it all and, at least this is my understanding, features available in "Small Business" and "Enterprise" editions are not part of "Ultra". "Ultra" is supposed to be a superset of "Professional" not of "Small Business" and "Enterprise". MUI and other features are not part of "Professional". |

#3 Perhaps you can ask if they will create a Windows Vista Super Ultimate Edition which will be a superset of all the other editions because you're right, Ultimate will not include MUI.
Are there going to be "N" versions of each of those versions? |

they gotta be kidding.
now ms will have the distinction of having as many stupid flavors as linux. heck, maybe more. remember, they still have to support windows xp and its five(?) flavors for at least the next five years or so. this is sheer stupidity at its finest. i can hear the automated support messages now…press 1 for vista small business; press 2 for home premium; press 3 for xp pro…………press 99 for xp home etc. whose idea is this? i think this is the intel strategy. come up with so many different products no one can figure out which is best. gotta hand it to apple, they understand the market place much better that ms. When it comes to computers most people kina just want ‘em to work. this is a huge opening for the mac imho. |

#4 Maybe they could call it Extreme Edition; it would make a nice duet with the Intel one :-) .
As far as N edition Mr. Monti,the former head of the EU commission is, simply put, an incompetent. The "Corriere della Sera" the most read Italian newspaper does even support Windows MediaPlayer at all; in order to watch a video you need to download RealPlayer, the only supported player. This fact alone is the best proof of how politicians in Bruxelles are wasting my money. #5 Don't forget that all editions but the "Starter" one will be 32 and 64 bits. |

| I agree--way too many editions. I can see offering a premium edition in addition to Home and Pro, but this is just overboard. I bet the OEMs can't wait for this mess. |
