In October 1994, I began working with the M2 release of Windows "Chicago," which went on to become known as Windows 4.0 and, finally, Windows 95. Already a published co-author of a Visual Basic 3.0 book, I was contracted to write a book about Windows 95, and this preview--based on build 224 beta code--appeared in the Spring 1995 issue of BC Link, an internal newsletter for the Benjamin Cummings publishing company. So here it is, my first published words about Windows 95, the OS that would change everything and usher in the era of 32-bit GUI computing for the masses. | ||

| Reading this preview time-warped me back to 94/95. It gave me goosebumps and I was going "wow" and "awesome" to things like long filenames and context menus all over again; yes, I suppose I'm a nerd, haha. Thanks for the link. Reading an original preview to celebrate its 10th birthday is more fun than reading a lookback. |

| You are not the only one. The thought of not having to come up with innovative ways to use the 8.3 naming convention was always very exciting to me. Windows 95 was the first OS that made me think that PCs would replace the UNIX box on my desk( someday). |
