Tom's Hardware Guide has an interview with the CEO of Zone Labs, Gregor Freund. A highlight... THG: What about Microsoft? Where are they in terms of a generation behind or two generations behind Zone Labs? Freund: I really don't know, frankly. They have an anti-spyware product that's so-so, from what we hear...The company that you mention is not necessarily known for technical innovation, although they've been pretty good at copying other people's stuff. | ||

| And they are even better in ruin what in the beginning was a great program. I quitted using it when it became so bloated with uselles stuff. |

| Freund is obviously a very smart person, but he's also underestimating Microsoft and the quality of MS Antispyware. Or, maybe he just knows that Zone has been beat at their own game. If you can't beat 'em, bad-mouth 'em! |

Was ZoneAlarm good because "it was good" or because there wasn't anything else available? Sure there were consumer firewalls, but nothing with a nice yellow gui that made average Joe feel like he had a clue. EDIT... ZoneAlarm's CEO acts like he doesn't know much about MSFT's antispyware prog. If thats true, he's in trouble. He better have it loaded on his pc and studying it day and night. Heads up CEO... Bill is on his way to take your house, your boat, and your revenue. and then he says... "I think it's a mistake [for Microsoft] to focus on building security software, because that's really done very well by independent companies". If that were true, why do we have so many security issues? Shouldn't the independent makers be able to cover up all the current problems? The best security software is still the old favourite AtGuard.
Even years after it stopped being developed or supported it's still making waves. Weighting in at less than 4mb you can't go wrong especially with it's small footpriints. Zone Alarm i can't say much about it. |
