There will be many readers of Techspot who took to computers and technology at an early age. I first used a computer at the age of 5, wrote programs in BASIC on it, and devoured its manuals. I am sure many here could tell similar stories. But it’s still impressive to hear about young Arfa Karim Randhawa, aged 10, who has become the youngest person to be certified as a Microsoft engineer. Yes, 10. You did read that correctly. | ||

| I can't understand why Microsoft loves to make big deal out of achievements like this. It only devalues the certifications. They may as well just announce a new slogan of "MCSE: It's so hard to achieve that even a 10-year-old can do it." If I were Bill, I'd keep it hushed up, not make a spectacle out of it. |

Wheras I would normall agree with you guys, I have to (slightly) differ in opinion. Not only did this little girl pass 3 exams for her cert, she was *retested* again when MS discovered that she was just a kid. I can only assume the test was different--if not them MS is manned by morons. So, in essence she didn't just "memorize," although there is definitely a lot of that going on, but she managed to make certain logical leaps for the second exam.
Really, is this that much dofferent from the 14 year old that passed the CISSP last year? No. But I think it will force MS to re-evaluate their testing process, making the cert worth more. |
