The debate in a Baltimore federal court is over who has a better idea about how to close "the digital divide," and equip needy schools with computers. On one side are Microsoft and the lawyers suing Microsoft; on the other side, Apple Computer, Linux advocates and other Microsoft critics. No matter who is technically right, isn't the very idea and place of the debate so very wrong? Isn't this the wrong debate in the wrong place between the wrong people? Shouldn't everyone involved be sent home with a note from the teacher? If Microsoft wants to give away software, that's a noble idea; but it's also an idea that should have nothing to do with the antitrust suits against it. | ||

#2. That's because yesterday I spammed slashdot by replying to about 10 messages (anonymously so I didn't lose Karma) saying. "Wait a minute, when has Microsoft been found guilty of overcharging? They haven't... this is a pre-trial settlement intended to get out of going to court on this issue"
So don't give too my credit to the intelligence of the general slashdot population. :) #4. Agreed. |

| I have absolutly no respect for the people who have filed a suit against MS for this, the ONLY reason they have is because they know that since MS has been convicted of being a monopolist, they can get money from them, and that is IT... unfortunatly, all too many Americans think the same way, almost makes me feel ashamed of being apart of this country (almost). |

| MS is make the right choice, since the 'digital divide' is fake. The truth of the facts are that the 'digital divide' is nothing more then media hype and MS is using it to it's advange. The 'digital divide' is nothing more then a purchasing pattern and priority bying, (according to several polls, and research, game system and dvd units are more important computers for some groups of americians), this will only go farther to make the 'Digital divide' more reality then myth. |

Well we should certainly seriously consider such wise and objective words. Since you have that opinion, certainly you will feel that they overcharged for NT 4 too. Also, if they moved consumers to NT earlier (e.g. only offered a Windows 2000 Pro no ME, no Home Edition) then consumers would have paid much more per license. |

How does staying with the 9x code-base make more money for MS? It doesn't in the slightest, but I guess you never actually thought about it (or you are just a lying idiot, take your pick). And who are YOU to say what MS could have done. Do you work at MS in the managment department? Do you work as a software developer for MS on the Windows team?.... Do you even get that the NT kernel wasn't meant for the general population until XP? It was just too advanced, and didn't have the same ease of use.
You, sir, go into my book as one of the people trying to milk MS for everything they can, even though you don't deserve it. And by the way, now it's MS's fault because people believed marketing hype? You are full of a bunch of BS. |
