Windows XP is selling briskly, but the patch parade is already in full swing. Here's a guide to the top upgrade glitches--and their fixes. Though there's no good method of telling in advance how easy--or nightmarish--upgrading to Windows XP will be, here's some advice that applies to almost everybody: Prepare to patch. In the weeks since Microsoft launched its new operating system--to a fairly cordial reception, judging from reports showing early sales approaching those of Windows 98--we have encountered or heard about dozens of glitches and pitfalls. Saw an even more bizarre problem at work. The Compaq machines, if upgraded from NT4 to WinXP would hang for 5 minutes on startup. Someone found out that this was caused by the NT4 drivers for the sound card. If these were uninstalled before, or after, the upgrade to WinXP all was well.

And then you would be saying they should release a 4th RC...
At some point the software has to ship. |

Right On Soda... I had been using XP as my Work OS since Beta 2. It had its querks but nothing too bad. They will never iron out all the bugs of the OS and If we waited for that day to come you would be stuck with Windows 98 to 2005 or so. That is hardly feisable(spell check).
I personally have had almost no problems with XP and it is stable as hell... WAIT! OMFG! I HAD TO REBOOT TWICE!! THIS POS! LINUX RULZ! /me smacks himself Ok... back to reality... i've had to reboot a few times... some software has had a couple of problems. Some hardware is kinda buggy because of drivers. Did that stop me from being productive? Am I glad as hell to be on this OS. yes, and do you know why. I live on a planet called "Earth" in a state called "reality". |
