Microsoft Goes Head-to-Head with Photoshop? | |

As someone who follows the graphics software space, I'm intrigued by Microsoft's latest foray into the professional graphics arena. The company has quietly launched the beta program for its new illustration, paint, and image-editing tool codenamed Acrylic. It is aimed at graphics pros working in print, Web, video, and interactive media, according to Microsoft. PC World's sister publication in the United Kindom, Digit magazine, explains that Acrylic is Microsoft's second warning shot to Adobe, following last month's announcement of Microsoft Metro, a tool that will directly compete with Adobe Acrobat. | ||

| Why do the tech journalists always do this? Who ever said that Acrylic was targeted at Photoshop? Everything Microsoft introduces--even if the product existed previously, as in this case--is suddenly "a shot over the bow" of someone. InfoPath was going to go head-to-head with Acrobat. So was Metro. These articles have become something more akin to the front page of the National Enquirer on your way checking out of the supermarket. |

| TL, what is it that you have against Passport? It's hardly unusual among many, many software companies to require some sort of registration to download a demo or beta. |
