Microsoft Launches Tabbed Browsing Tool | |

Tabbed browsing has come to Microsoft Although version 7 of Internet Explorer has not been released yet, Microsoft has included tabbed browsing in an update to its MSN Search Toolbar for version 6 of Internet Explorer, which was made publicly available today. The tabbed browsing feature in the new 2.5 version of the MSN toolbar will enable users "to quickly access, manage and save commonly visited sites into automatic 'routines' of Web pages that can all be opened simultaneously," according to an MSN Fact Sheet. | ||

| Someone please give me some feedback on this tabbed browsing thing in the toolbar. I have installed the toolbar in the past only to be disappointed, and I don't want to go thru all that again... |

Much improved. I still dont prefer msn search, but the toolbar is nice.
Beyond the tabbed browsing, the desktop search also has a new interface. It provides a nice preview pane for documents it finds. For example, if it finds an excel doc. One click and you get a nice preview of the doc. The preview is fast, but still with plenty of room for improvement. |

| I don't do toolbars. If they ever want me back as an IE user, they need to build tabbed usability without any such spyware addon. (Yes, search toolbars are most DEFINITELY spyware) |

By default CTRL+TAB or F6 moves between frames, but MSN Toolbar tabbed browsing uses CTRL+TAB to move to the next tab.
Tabbed browsing works quite well I think, although the "My Tabs" feature is a bit cludgy. There needs to be an "Edit My Tabs" feature. I've been using MSN Toolbar and Windows Desktop Search since they were in Beta and I think they're both awesome. There are 2 really cool things I do with Desktop Search... Search my desktop for anything and add that search to Favorites via the Explorer Favorites menu. (i.e. Create a saved search!) And, second I create a shortcut to my IE Favorites by typing this in the search toolbar: @favs,kind:favorites $w Then I can type "favs active" in the toolbar and the Desktop Search window loads with the criteria "kind:favorites active" which effectively filters the results to IE favorites containing the word active. I hardly ever have to use the Favorites menu now... |

#13, regarding 64-bit...
MSN's goals are to quickly role out products with commercial user reach, in other words software that MANY users will use right away. x64 has seen its growth in the enterprise market, so it makes sense that Windows Desktop Search will support that OS later, and most likely when the enterprise version of Desktop Search is released. |
