Microsoft has filed its latest attempt to comply with Europe's antitrust ruling, getting its proposal in mere hours before the deadline set by authorities. A European Commission representative told ZDNet UK on Wednesday that Microsoft met Tuesday's deadline for submissions but that European authorities need to examine Microsoft's proposal to see whether the company has complied fully with the conditions laid out in the original antitrust ruling. | ||

| Typical petulant MS. Waiting until the last second of the last minute to comply. And you just know that what they submitted is going to be woefully inadequate, but at least it will buy them more time to stall & moan about the inconvenience of obeying the law. |

Let me get this straight, part of your complain is that Microsoft didn't comply early enough? Based on that logic we should all expect complaints when we don't pay our bills early.
Usually I pay my bills electonically on the day that they are due, shame on me. |

Actually #2, it is my understanding that the $600 million dollar plus fine was paid months ago. In addition, MS apparently has EU approval regarding the new European version of XP sans Media Player.
The current problem is the third part of the ruling that orders MS to open up its code to allow other software developers to write software that better integrates with Windows. MS still considers this proprietary code. It will be interesting to see how forthcoming MS is with that code. Moreover, it will be interesting to see how aggressive the EU will be in enforcing this ruling to protect software developers largely located in the US. |

Specifications not code - no source code needs to be presented, just a complete and accurate specifications including all those hidden API's. #4 "We know MS has already complied with some of the directives" Some not all. Even if it were 25 out of 26, it would not change things especially since the ruling only gave them 120 days to comply not over a year or whenever they feel like it - so there's no spinning when someone mentions that Microsoft is dragging it out. What else do you call not meeting all the directives almost a year after the actual deadline? |
