Microsoft: No IE7 for Windows 2000 | |

With Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 set to debut next month, Microsoft has quietly closed the door on Windows 2000 users planning to adopt the new Web browser. IE7 will require Windows XP Service Pack 2 due to internal security changes that rely on Microsoft's latest operating system release. The decision to update Internet Explorer before Longhorn arrives in late 2006 was announced by Bill Gates at the RSA Conference in February. Although Microsoft had said it was focusing on Windows XP SP2 only, the company did leave open the possibility of IE7 supporting Windows 2000. "We're actively listening to our major Windows 2000 customers about what they want and comparing that to the engineering and logistical complexity of that work," IE team head Dean Hachamovitch wrote in February | ||

It's a real shame that we who use w2k have to suffer. I guess it's all OS below winxp that won't be getting the upgrade. We would also like IE 7 for us so MS do consider this giant leap.
If all pleas fall on deaf ears i guess we would stick to windows 2000/ IE 6 SP1(etc, etc). Well there's also Firefox or Opera to choose from. I personally dislike windows xp. |

| #1: MS has flip-flopped so much lately that it should only be a week or two before they announce IE for W2K. But why would you want it? |

| Windows 2000 is going into extended support before IE7 is released, I highly doubt that they will release IE7 for it. |

| quux, while I agree that IE isn't going to cause too many people to upgrade from Win2k, I'm sure MS doesn't want to give anybody a reason to stick around, especially with Longhorn coming out next year. |

| Ah, what the hell. No need to improve/secure the most commonly used OS/Browser in the business world. |
