Microsoft does not appear in any imminent danger of losing much market share on the desktop productivity front to any Linux or open-source competitors. In a presentation at this week's Gartner Symposium/ITxpo here in San Francisco titled "Client OS and Office – Charting a Course to Longhorn (or Linux)," Michael Silver, a Gartner analyst, said that just because Linux is free does not mean it is cheap. | ||

Linux is free.
Linux is cheap to maintain. Linux comes with MANY more applications than Microsoft Windows. I've been using Linux for 11 years now. Debian linux has a software package management system that is years ahead of Microsoft. These so called "linux analysts" have probably never seriously used linux. |

| #3, No kidding! No stronger argument could be made in favor of Microsoft software than that one. |
