The Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) credential is for technology professionals who have the skills to successfully implement a Microsoft product or technology as part of a business solution. At just 9 years old, Arfa Karim Randhawa , of Faisalabad, Pakistan, is one of the youngest MCPs in the world. She recently received her credentials from Emre Berkin, chairman of Microsoft's Europe, Middle East and Africa region, and Jawwad Rehman, Microsoft's country manager for Pakistan. Via e-mail, Randhawa recently discussed how the child of an agricultural family came to achieve this status and what it means to her and her family. | ||

A certification means only that you can retain information long enough to take and pass an exam. It doesn't make you "special", "elite", or "cool." It's just a resume booster. So at age 9, she has all the requisite ability to remember information (or hit up a braindump site for the answers) to take and pass the exam. Also, it doesn't say which exam she passed, some are harder than others, as anyone who has sat to take one can tell you.

I am an MCP. I think experience is far more important than this exam/certification, though.
Passing the MCP exam is a matter of learning how _Microsoft_ wants a question answered, not necessarily about the subject matter. Passing Microsoft Exams are more about learning how to _take_ a Microsoft Exam. TL |

| I was managing a small support group 10 years ago. One of the guys, who had just passed the MS TCP/IP exam (apparently one of the hardest), actually asked me if every PC on the local network segment had to have a unique IP address. I kid you not. |
