Adobe to buy Macromedia for $3.4 billion | |

Computer document company Adobe Systems said on Monday it agreed to buy multimedia software firm Macromedia for about $3.4 billion in stock, a move designed to extend its lead in the market for creating and distributing digital documents. Adobe, best known for its Acrobat document-sharing software, said the deal would help it meet rising customer demand for audio and video options that are compatible with hand-held devices. Macromedia also gives Adobe access to the dominant animated graphics software on the Internet and fits into an aggressive expansion into mobile phones. | ||

well, I'd rather have Adobe Dreamweaver than MS-Dreamweaver, since Adobe provides versions of their software for non-mainstream OSes...

Thats alot of money just to kill flashpaper.
Actually, I'm quite suprised this didn't happen earlier. Now, if only apple would buy adobe... i could finally get my cio to abandon the last coldfusion apps we maintain. |

I feel sorry for you... and any other company that had some bozo advocate Cold Fusion into their environment. I remember consulting to Nortel around 1998 and seeing how an entire business unit was building everything with Cold Fusion. After I took a closer look at its syntax, structure and lack of scalabilty, I argued against its further adoption and, thankfully, prevailed. (That entire business unit was one of the first to be laid-off a few years later.) |

| ch, you don't know the half of it. We are stuck at CF, VERSION 5... because we don't want to breathe ANY new life into that PoS. We are actively rewriting the apps in .NET |
