IBM and Oracle like to think they are the titans duking it out for supremacy in the database market. But another titan, Microsoft, is gaining ground. In fact, Redmond is even going after Unix users with the one-two punch of SQL Server and Windows 2000. SearchWin2000's Assistant News Editor Edward Hurley spoke with Peter Urban, a senior analyst with AMR Research, about the enterprise worthiness of SQL Server. | ||

You must be joking.. SQL Server is a breaze to manage when compaired with Oracle and DB2.

Many of Microsoft's Server Products and Technologies always get lower ratings because the don't build them for other OS's.
IIS SQL Server Exchange Active Server Pages Then everybody uses those "ratings" as a reason to choose otherwise when portability to other OS's doesn't every matter. I wish they would rate them based solely on their performance and leave portability out for once. For example you will see ASP's performance better than almost all other technology and it has more features (programming support etc.) then all the rest but the simple fact that you can't move it to a linux box makes it rated less than ColdFusion ROFLMAO! There are quite a large number of applications and such that run on Unix, but not on Windows NT. Therefore these applications are not worth considering because they aren't cross platform. :)
Funny that argument never seems to be used by the Unix folks. :) |
