| I'm curious... has anyone noticed reduced CPU utilization when playing Windows Media video files on these drivers? PureVideo supposedly enables offloading the decoding to the GPU. |

since I don't have one of the 2 cards that support pure video no;) have a 5200 fx. although looking at one last agp update before doing a major system upgrade in 2k6.

A side note....
I read somewhere this week that nVidia cards set the PCI Latency to 238msec, while most devices set it for 64msec. I used a referenced utility to check my system and sure enough, most were at 64msec or 32msec, depending on what they were, and my 6800GT was at 238msec. In the thread every single person posting that changed theirs to 64msec using the utility stated that their games ran smoother with fewer 'stutters'. Anyone here been through this and can verify it's worthwhile? It could just be another one of those "Computer Wives Tales" but in theory it has promise... TL |

while I don't have a 6800, we set up one on at my friends house. the first thing he did after running the doom 3 test was reduce pci latency on his card to 64 ms, and there was a noticle difference in play back. I only got to see this for a hour or so, and only for about 10 mins on the original setting so it may be a fluke, but the system was stable and has been for the past 2 days. in answer to bluvg, on his system there is a drop in cpu usage when playing vids. with the new drivers. I don't have the numbers here. all changes made to the system where done after loading the beta drivers. he is going ot load the whql drivers tonight. he is running a 6800 ultra card not sure of manu though. Damn I hate being broke. el |

bluvg, I think PureVideo is still limited for WMV until an update to WMP is released. I think there is some acceleration, but not as much as is possible with the update. Anandtech and others detailed this shortly after PureVideo's release.
You should see a difference in CPU utilization on MPEG2/DVD content however if you use the NVIDIA decoder and have "Hardware acceleration" checked, and "De-interlace Control" set to "Smart" in the decoder properties. |

bluvg, the driver release notes mention that acceleration is in the driver, but does still require an update from MS. I'm pretty sure this refers to an update beyond WMP build 3802 that was released about a month ago.
