Teen virus writer could pay Microsoft over $600,000 | |

Jeffrey Lee Parson, the teen who admitted to writing the Blaster virus, is now facing a three-year jail sentence and a bill for $626,000. Parson, a 19-year-old from Minnesota, is due to be sentenced this week for writing the Blaster.B variant, which prosecutors claim infected around 48,000 machines that hadn't had a Microsoft patch installed to protect against the Windows XP and 2000 flaw, and caused damage totalling $1.2m. The variant also tried to use its infected zombies commit a denial-of-service attack on the Microsoft Windows Update site. Now, Microsoft stands to be the main beneficiary if the teen malware writer has to pay the requested restitution. The Redmond behemoth would receive the lion's share, with the rest of the money being distributed to some of the victims of the worm. | ||

Hmmm, if you buy a car, and forget to lock the door, and someone steals it, is Ford responsible? Or let's get more specific. If you buy a car, and there is a problem with the locks, and Ford sends you a recall notice to come get it fixed, and you don't. Then someone steals the car, is Ford responsible? Just a thought. He'll declare bankruptcy and then what?
Death is too much(for a first offense) and 3 years is not enough for these vandals. BUT, I don't want him taking up a cell that could be used for a violent criminal. |

#15, that is very cool - people should buy and enjoy the system they want.
You need to post some in the MAC forum about what your experience has been - good and bad and that of your friend. It would be interesting to see that perspective. Personally, where people are into this stuff, or as a profession - using different systems and living with them - again, good and bad, has to be a good thing. I once ran nothing but a server OS of a Unices flavor for months - just to see what I could and could not do as well. It was fun. |
