Open Source has a chance, but it isn't going to evolve around a *nix - in fact, no monlithic design is going to be the OS of the future and I do not see MS staying with that design for too much longer.
The decision about *nix was made long before any Linuces emerged. It just can't remain that way - unless, like the automobile, it largely stagnates - that would really be bad - like looking down the edge of some Byzantine precipice - could it be 440 all over again and 1500 more years till we reach the moon? Gawd...I hope not... |
