A couple of days ago we posted some early thoughts on our forthcoming new advertising policies. In that item, we have some detail on how we were going to approach the placement of ads, and how that factored into the question of advertising rates. Problem is, this scheme depends upon a bit of CSS -- "position: fixed" -- which enables certain bits of the page's design to remain fixed in place within the browser window even as the reader scrolls down the page. Why is that a problem? Because the wunderkind of Microsoft continue to refuse to code Internet Explorer to adhere to Web standards, including the "position: fixed" required to make this work. And because the most popular browser doesn't support this (and other) Web standards, we therefore have to abandon the above advertising placement scheme. | ||

This is one thing I would mind having "broke" in every browser. Static placed ads are annoying since they always cover content.
The first reader comment from "luke" was expected: "Any complaint about IE is also a great opportunity to mention Mozilla Firefox, for anyone who hasn't heard of it. It works great and is very simple to change from IE to Mozilla. While I don't like being a shill, even for a product they give away, its what I use and has served me well." Well, Luke, you're not a shill. You're a satified Firefox user such as myself. |

he doesn't have to change what he is doing. He is just afraid that his ad will fall on deaf ears becuase not that many people use the other browers as a whole.
I don't want to see that type of ad anyway it blocks content too often. If he wants exposure he should use a different add that isn't annoying everyone. What's up with the Home Page. Whatever Ad/script is trying to run on the Home Page keeps crashing IE on every PC I use (XP SP2 w/Ad blocking on)? So far, I've been able to crash 7 PC's when visiting your website. IE doesn't like something you have running. I think you missed the point. They want to use an INDUSTRY STANDARD function, but they can't because the non-industry-standard IE doesn't support it. |

| IE is the industry standard cause they have over 90% market share. Why code for anything else unless you like to shoot yourself in the foot! |

| Web sites with Flash home pages and sites with fixed position ads are annoying and detract from the web site experience. They are not user focused at all. Both are annoying , albeit technically cool, gimmicks that translate into bad marketing. |
