Heading into Macworld, rumors of a new productivity suite from Apple that might compete with Microsoft Office have made been making the rounds. Microsoft, however, is sticking by Apple, according to a statement from the company's Mac Business Unit published by CNet News. | ||

| Although many Mac royalists as well as casual users may be intrigued by iWork (or whatever it's going to be called), it's not a threat to Office. Why? Compatibility. Although some Office alternatives offer decent Office compatibility, none offers 100% compatibility with Office files. And in the world of business, that is not acceptable. |

| Microsoft Office for the Mac is so beautiful compared to the PC version. I hope Apple doesn't make another bad decision. |

I dont pay much attention to Apple anymore, but I thought they ALREADY had an office suite. Whats the big news?

Jeff, explain to an average user why you've got to use a different windowing system on top of another windowing system. After you've stared at their slackened jaw for a few minutes, try explaining what a windowing system is. Then try to explain to them why the UI is completely inconsistent with all Mac apps... Then try to say that it's easy to install and start up.
On a contrary note, up to date Mac systems now include Apple X11 and everything required to run the software. |
