Microsoft reiterated on Friday that companies still using Windows NT Server 4 going into 2005 will have to sign up for a custom contract to get support.
Microsoft is offering up to two years of custom support to companies still using the OS when Microsoft ceases its extended support for the program at the end of 2004.

This will only benefit Linux.

#1 and how would it benefit Linux, when support is paid-for on that platform, no matter what version you have? Comments like that are entirely stupid.

I think it only help further the migration from NT4 to Server 2003.

I agree Chris. This will encourage Windows Server 2003 upgrades. Upgrading to a nix platform could end up being more expensive after converting all software over and then the support/training requirements. Windows Server 2003 is a natural upgrade from NT4 and of course includes support.

"but doing so would be for savings in the long run."
I would beg to differ.

"Even ActiveWin have been having quite a bit of downtime with Server 2003, perhaps it's not as mature as some of the other solutions."
Um, excuse you? Care to back that up? Since we switched to Windows Server 2003 we have had RECORD uptime since AWIN was born.

Halcyon, unless you can provide some proof of our unsatisfactory downtime (in your opinion), I will just assume you were not prepared to make that comment.
Please elaborate on these database problems and recent service outages. In the past 3 months we had only a 2 hour outage. And the reason it was a 2 hour outage is because it took us that long to get to the server and correct an issue. So it probably would have been a total of a 5 minute downtime had the server been in our personal location.
Again, you said "Even ActiveWin have been having quite a bit of downtime with Server 2003, perhaps it's not as mature as some of the other solutions." Yet we have NEVER had ANY downtime with Server 2003 until last week, which was a trivial issue.
So please do not spread false information. Windows Server 2003 has been phenomenal, and it has increased the overall performance of AWIN in leaps and bounds.

Parkker, while Hal might not be right all the time, as is the case with Awin and Windows Server 2003 comments he made, I have found him to be one of the more knowledgeable "nonMSshills" on these comment boards.
I do know that MS is indeed supporting this NT4 for a long time, and have had numerous service packs/security updates for the old NT4 platform intending to respond to customer demand.
I can also say that I would be more comfortable setting up a Microsoft server farm vs. an open source farm because of support. With Microsoft, I know they will be around to support the product as they have promised, where as with open source products, I am not sure how long those companies will be around to support their distro. I know had I gone with Corel Linux Desktops when they were offering an OS at Best Buy that I would be a bit confused or worried now that they are not offering their desktop.

You recollect that saying, it takes a village to heighten a child?
Apparently, Kanye's village has failed him. He buy cialis mastercard patently doesn't have a existent chum in the world. There does not appear to be anyone who can stir through to him, to occasion him get the drift that he needs to check his base behavior.
