Halo 2 earned $125 million in first-day sales, breaking records for first-day earnings of any entertainment release, including the biggest Hollywood blockbusters. In other words, The Matrix got nothing on Master Chief. The frenzy for one of the biggest console releases in videogame history moved 2.4 million units in the U.S. and Canada. Says Microsoft's Peter Moore: "The first 24 hours of Halo 2 sales have taken our breath away." Time will tell just how high the figures will climb, but there's no doubt -- and no surprise in noting -- that Halo 2 has already made videogame history. | ||

Well, if there are 2.4 million copies sold, and their are 20 million Xbox owners, that would be 12%. That doesn't take in account those Xbox owners that have more than one Xbox for the sole purpose of a dedicated server, and buying a second copy for their other Xbox. So I guess that if we took off 1% for those who own more than one box, that would be 11%. (that is if you wanted to figure PER PERSON...not sure if you consider one owner with 2 xboxes, or someone who has two xboxes as 2 owners). | (2.4 million/# of X-box owners) x 100 = % of X-box owners who purchased Halo 2. The solution is left as an exercise for the student. ;) |

| I guess that would be easy to do with the Xbox's smaller market share. Had MS had 70 million xboxes out there like Sonys PS2, it would have been more difficult to make that a record. They would have to have sold 8.4 Million copies the first day. |

Not that it matter much, but the xbox installed base is less than 16 million. I believe 16 million is the goal for June 2005 according to one of their earnings press releases.
btw, the game is fantastic. I've been playing it as much as possible, and this game is DEEP. With XBoxLIVE, it is absolutely amazing. |
