IIS Lockdown Wizard version 2.1 works by turning off unnecessary features, thus reducing attack surface available to attackers. To provide multiple layers of protection against attackers, URLscan, with customized templates for each supported server role, is integrated into the IIS Lockdown Wizard. To keep the server completely secure, however, all hotfixes are required before and after applying IIS Lockdown Wizard to stay protected against known security vulnerabilities. | ||

Ya, please do install Redhat... and don't patch it! I want to be able to root your system with a 25 year old hole in the telnet daemon (ripp'd from BSD) that was just found a month or so ago.
Anybody who thinks the way to solve a security problem with IIS is to replace it with Linux/Apache has a world of hurt coming to them when they realize there are an average of 11 holes a month for Linux distros, and about 10% of those are remote root. What people don't seem to realize is that Windows has no more security flaws (although IIS is probably an exception... damnit, stupid ISAPI programmers were on crack or something) than any other OS. They flaws it does have are always made headlines by anti-MS (read: everybody) news sites, and are exploited that much faster because of the industry leading position Microsoft is in. |
