Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, speaking to a gathering of reporters here, didn't pass up the opportunity to take several digs at archrival Apple Computer.
At the heart of his criticism of Apple was DRM (digital rights management) technology, which aims to help content providers such as record labels and movie studios control their intellectual property--or at least ensure all royalties are paid and copyrights observed.
"We've had DRM (digital rights management) in Windows for years," Ballmer said. "The most common format of music on an iPod is stolen."

Rather silly remark, if MS based players had more market share then they would be the most packed player of pirated tunes, seeming bitter from my view.

What a bunch of cheap putzes (this is polite way to say you are a bunch of thieves). CD/DVDs are only 10-20 bucks!
Of course, rip you off of your possessions and we'd never hear the end of your whining!

"A $399 iPod holds 40GB.
At 1MB / Minute (rule of thumb for 128 KB/s), that's 40,000 minutes of music[2]."
I use 196 kb/s...
"At 3 minutes per song, that's over 13,000 songs."
I have Jazz tunes and Clasical pieces that are over a half hour long.
"At 13 songs / album, that's 1000 CD's."
I have CDs with 60 tracks on them. I have plenty with 1,2, or 3.
"At $17 / CD, that's $17,000 to fill up a $399 iPod."
I haven't spent $17 on a double-disc import.
"Sure, you can get CD's cheaper, but considering that half the songs on an album are lame and don't make it to the iPod, I figure $17 / CD is fair."
I don't buy lame CDs or songs. Why is it fair to increase the price of a CD by 100% because he likes crappy artists/CDs?
"Yeah, you can download them one at at time from iTunes / Walmart / etc., but how long will it take to download 13,000 songs clicky clicky style? I'm sticking at $17 / CD."
Are CDs illegal?
The most significant point is a footnote: "Or any digital music device. iPod just happens to be the popular one at the moment."
It was not Ballmer's intention to say: "all digital music devices" or all "WMA devices", and the simple fact is, the number of "stolen" tracks is probably higher in the Windows world.
Ballmer wants all rights holders to beleive that Windows and WMA are rock solid because "they've had DRM for years"? Does anyone buy that? Does anyone think that every track on a Windows/non-iPod machine is drm'ed, secure, and legal?

"In an age of Napster, Kazaa etc, anyone who suggests most of the MP3's on digital players were bought legally is insane. "
A year ago we were supposed to believe you when you said only the obnoxiously wealthy and addicted to being hip would by an iPod. Now, a year later, we are supposed to believe these same insane people are absurdly wealthy but are massive thiefs? Or at least, we'd be insane to think that wealthy, hip people own and/or buy music? I'll continue to believe that you are the insane one, Parkker.
"2) Janus is coming. Even Apple is freaking out about it. "
You've been talking about it for 6 months. Microsoft for a year and a half (at CES two years ago, it was supposed to launch for X-mas last year). How is Apple freaking out?

"The combination of Janus and subscription services like Virgin Digitals 7.99 service that lets you download as many songs as you want from a million song collection will eventually erode and destory iTMS unless they fold and buy into Windows DRM."
Again, please point out how in anyway your asslicking of Microsoft shows that Apple is freaking out.
"Attempting to claim that iPod users are somehow pure as the driven snow and never download MP3's from Kazaa or any of the other P2P networks makes you look dumber than usual - which I didn't think was possible!"
Who said that? I said Ballmer was a moron for singling out a single product which is probably more legally pristine than users of his own products.
"More people rent movies than buy them."
So? Music isn't a movie. Most people rent apartments in New York City, does that mean if you live in bumblefck, Wyoming, you are going to rent?
"Bitterness and hatred of Microsoft are not a replacement for intellectual rigor."
What is this retarded mantra, Parkker? Your shrink tell you this would prevent you from a complete psychotic break or something? You show no intellectual rigor. You repeat the same nonsense over and over. You have made assinine predictions for almost 3 years now that are either falling apart or years away from any basis. Asskissing Microsoft is no reason to be an intellectual midget.

"Apple ... they'd rather make 50% profit on 2% of the market instead of 10% on 90% of the market. "
They never made 50% profits... Those margins sound like Windows software margins. Apple is currently making about 28% profit by selling to 98% of the digital music player market and has acquired 55% of it legally.

Is it 2% or 15%, Parkker? either way you are not credible.
Microsoft does not offer subscriptions either, Parkker.

And, as I have said, you've posted ads for players and services for over a year that just don't compare.
Microsoft doesn't eat its own, world-saving and Apple-killing dogfood. Not eating your own dogfood is a clear indicator that a product is a weak option.
