Gates: Microsoft to offer anti-spyware | |

Microsoft plans to offer its own anti-spyware software, Chairman Bill Gates said Friday. Gates said Microsoft will offer software to detect malicious applications and that the company will keep it up-to-date on an ongoing basis. He did not say when the software would be available or whether Microsoft would charge for it. Although progress is being made against spam and viruses, Gates said the adware and malware problem is getting worse. "This malware thing is so bad," he said in a speech at the Computer History Museum here. "Now that's the one that has us really needing to jump in." It's also a problem that has affected Gates personally. He said his home PCs have had malware, although he has personally never been affected by a virus. | ||

So name a system that is secure by default.
Name a setup that is auto-secure. And what the hell does .net have to do with any of this? Do you even know what you're talking about? And by the way, yes, Microsoft have failed their customers, but their customers are just as much to blame as Microsoft is. We wanted more and more features. We wanted easy to use software and hardware. We wanted things now, not later, and we never cared about security. All of us got ourselves into this mess. Microsoft should have been writing secure code from the start, but we should have been asking them to, too. |

| I wonder how many companies will sue Microsoft over there monopoly of anti-spy-ware software? |

I have no problem with this, especially since the companies we already pay to protect our systems from rogue software (Symantec, McAfee, etc...) are doing NOTHING in their products to take care of this.
I'm particularly upset wity Symantec. They list most of these Spyware exploits in their SARC, but they do absolutely nothing about them in their software. TL |

Firewalls do nothing to stop Spyware. It's your beloved IE and it's swiss-cheese security that lets most Spyware in. Users clicking on things they shouldn't (or are tricked into) is where the rest comes from. |
