What the hell is this...
"Locate and Enter Your Windows Product Key" page??? Microsoft is wanting a product key on a unsecured page! = I don't think so |

| You don't have to validate... if you just click "No...", you will still be taken to the download page. |

I use FireFox and it took me all of two mouse clicks to get to the downloads page - one to get the validation page, one to say I don't want to validate.
Byron, perhaps you should try it for yourself before speaking. The exact same page sequence is in place using FF, Moz, or IE. This post was edited by BobSmith on Sunday, September 26, 2004 at 15:25. |

Using FireFox, I was never asked to enter my Product Key... though I was asked to enter a Validation Code which was autogenerated using a little program you can download. Kind of a pain, but you can still always choose not to download. Here is a bit of what MS told its MVPs regarding the program:
Microsoft is testing the infrastructure of the Windows Genuine Advantage pilot to learn more about delivering genuine software to its customers, combating counterfeit software, and enhancing the value of genuine Windows by differentiating it from counterfeit software. Microsoft is gathering feedback to learn how it can best meet its customers' needs. As part of the program, some customers visiting the Download Center will be invited to participate in a simple, one-time validation process designed to determine whether they are running a genuine version of Windows. Validated customers will then receive access to all content. Customers found to be using non-genuine versions of Windows will be offered information about obtaining genuine software but will still have access to the downloads they are after. Customers who choose not to participate in the program will continue to have access to all downloads. |

I am actually quite concerned by this new validation page crap. All of my systems are licensed, but why do I need to do this to download a frickin utility program?
What's the point? Especially since you can skip past. What is microsoft trying to do here? |
