Corel is pulling out all the stops to break Microsoft Office's hold on system builders. Next month, the company will begin offering a three-pack bundle of Quattro Pro and WordPerfect to Intel's 45,000 system builders for about $60, said Brett Denly, executive vice president of worldwide marketing at Corel, Ottawa. Corel also plans a series of Webinars and a marketing campaign in conjunction with Intel pushing a "three-fer" WordPerfect Productivity 3 Pack targeted at manufacturers of custom laptops and desktops. End users wanting to add Corel Presentations to the mix can do so for an additional $50, Denly said. | ||

Even the "aggressive" pricing of $60 is too high when PC Works can be had for under $10 with 25 programs including OpenOffice, which I prefer over Word Perfect.
Corel: Drop the price to ten dollars and you’ll make instant headway against Microsoft. Most business people over 35 learned word processing on Word Perfect for DOS. However, for years Microsoft made it easy for, and often encouraged, multiple installations of one copy of Office until it was loaded onto 90+ percent of PC’s. Then suddenly MS discovered digital rights, which had existed for years but wasn’t used by MS until Office had conquered the desktop. |

in my office we still use word perfect along side word. both work fine.
still i agree with #1, it needs to be even less expensive than $60 to be an attractive alternative to the mighty ms office suite for most folks. |
