Microsoft Poised To Post XP Pro SP2 On Automatic Update | |

Microsoft will make Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 (SP2) available via Automatic Update [AU] on Wednesday, the company confirmed. The Redmond, Wash. software giant has already issued the Automatic Update for Windows XP Home Edition, but delayed Windows XP Pro SP2 to give customers and partners time to gear up for a significant phase of SP2 corporate deployment. Microsoft has confirmed that more than 50 applications break or clash with the SP2, which was first made available to OEMs on August 6. | ||

| Great spin on this one. While some large companies with customized software need to test SP2, the primary reason given by MS insiders recently was that MS was taken aback by the number of Enterprise Windows XP Pro customers that relied on Automatic Updates and had to scale back and stagger the deployment of SP2 so as to not overwhelm the MS servers. |

Bring on the bits!
Everyone bitched and moaned when SP1 came out also. Back then, the only option was to turn off Automatic Updates. |

a question for the cognoscenti at activewin. i have already installed sp2 on a number of xp pro computers. is this sp2 different? will it install over the other sp2.
thanks be to those with any info. |
