There's something about the Redmond company that drives people nuts - just how do Gates and co. do it? The Monday morning missive got right to the point: "I find it simultaneously strange, amazing and utterly incomprehensible that your news publications continue to write business articles about Microsoft that appear to elevate and lend credibility to their organisation. It's almost as if I am reading something coming out of the Pyongyang press!" There's no doubt that Kim Jong-il longs to direct technology coverage at CNET News.com, though I can assure one and all that neither the dear leader nor any of his comrades are in line to direct our editorial operations any time soon. | ||

Clearly if Microsoft is going to offer a discounted version of XP, it's going to be limited.
I don't understand why people are whining about this. I also want to point out that this method of licensing has been in existence for years. Unix systems used to sell as 2 user versions, or multi-user versions... the code was the same, there was simply a switch. Electronics have been sold for years missing simply a knob, or a jack or something which gave it different functionality. The extra knob was in the more expensive model... but both models used the same internals. |

I gotta admit, putting in a 3 program running limitation was probably more work than the reward. I don't know how they can possibly measure that.
For instance I probably have 20 programs running right now under my userid, but over half of them are crap that I am not aware of. Like what's this atiptaxx.exe? Something ATI drivers installed most likely. I could understand how that might be frustrating to a first time owner of a computer. |

| sodablue: MS's reward will come years in the future when 90+% of all east Asian desktop PC's are running Windows and Longhorn comes out. They will be deluged with PR just like the rest of us. It'll be better, faster, it'll run FOUR programs! Now fork over your dough. |

Uhh...."Microsoft is just better than all others..." "Microsoft has as much passion for what it does as it hopes all others will for what they do...
May be that's what some people have such a hard time with. |
