Personally I never used to use it...but over the past 6 months or so it's now my chat program of choice thanks to not being bloated.

I've used Messenger since version 1.0 as does do all the other employees in my office, so perhaps by #3's logic nobody uses other IM clients. Also, #12 what problems are you having? I was voice chatting with Windows Messenger 4.5 just yesterday without a problem. Perhaps your problems are based on firewalls and not Messenger's supposed flaws. I have no problems with Messenger 4.5. It does what I need it to do.

We started using MSN Messenger at work. First we tried ICQ and AIM. But ICQ didn't like working through the firewall and was slow and buggy. AIM looks too cartoonish, it's meant for children rather than adults.
Messenger just has a lot of nice features that are ideal for our purposes.

I've tried messenger.microsoft.com and messenger.msn.com and both prompt me to install build 125. Where does build 127 come from?

I honestly want to know what HAS been UPDATED? Even since I installed the updated version I have noticed that my outgoing packet count has tripled. Has anyone investigated this?? I am running win XP(yes compared to 2000, I see more outgoing packets-but those were for MSN messenger, but now the updated MSN, it is just spewwing outgoing packets).

For the person who said "Who uses MSN/Windows Messenger anyway?" Well, 42 million + people are using it right now. MSN Messenger is the #1 Messenger available now. MSN Messenger has more users than ICQ, more than AIM, and more than any of the smaller clients. THAT is who uses MSN Messenger.

If you counted all hotmail accounts, you'd probably have a least three times the numbers #27 was quoting.

Um, no. The figures for MSN Messenger are based on "ACTIVE USERS", not hotmail accounts, not passport accounts and not downloads. Active Users.
For BobSmith: Here is a link. BTW, Yahoo, AOL and ICQ have not questioned these stats either.
http://www.microsoft.com/PressPass/press/2001/Mar01/03-16MSNMessengerPR.asp
This is from Media Metrix, which was in march with 29 million users. There are now over 42 million users.
