Microsoft Says It Is Exploring the Sale of Slate Magazine | |

Microsoft, which earlier this week announced a one-time cash dividend worth $32 billion to its shareholders, said today that it was exploring the sale of Slate, a pioneer in digital publishing. According to company executives, Microsoft is considering a sale of Slate because the model of creating a Web magazine of cultural criticism and political analysis to attract visitors to its MSN Network has little business salience in an age dominated by search applications. And the site's small size limits its ability to meaningfully contribute to Microsoft's revenues. | ||

Yeah, I was going to say a similar thing. It's hard to maintain communist/socialist propaganda as one of the worlds most successful capitalistic companies.
Let the YellowTimes pick it up and all the liberals and speak amongst themselves while the rest of the world moves on and actually accomplishes things. |

Any hint of it, is reason enough to call it like it is and spare the world a repeat - no matter how cleverly it may be disguised. Grant it, the authors at slate are more likely very liberal social democrats, but that branding and thinking has been used to choke the life out of more than one empire. Well...as a retired soldier, I should take great personal offense to #11, but I won't. Allowing such idiocy is part of what I and many far better than I will ever be, fought for. My exception to Slate is based upon my general exception to anything held out as fact that is not supported by fact and material evidence. Social Democrats are not good for people - especially poor people - no matter how well intentioned they may be. No more than "not" being able to "own" property is, or being relieved of that property. Now, I have a keen understanding of what it is to be materially poor [by design] - try raising kids on what a Platoon Sergeant made in the 70's, and 80's! Now, no one loves this country or its people more than soldiers - we did/do after all "prove it." What we do not like, is what we have seen - the indirect and then direct enslavement of people. Only independent and commercially viable goods, services, people and countries can create opportunities and generate wealth. Social Democrats simply like to move it around after they have taken their cut. After spending millions providing opportunities to young Americans I have to tell you that you are really off-base. After seeing and doing what I have done, I must tell you that you are as wrong headed as any "Yard Duck" [an untrained soldier] I have ever seen! |

I find it amazing that you claim Democrats are Communists, when the fact is Democrats are more Free Market than the Republicans. You probably don't even know what it means to be a Free Market Capitalist, because you are blinded by the Corporatism promoted by the Republican party. You claim Welfare is bad, yet at the same time you promote it for Corporations. Government spending to corporations is even more damaging to our society than taking money and giving it to individuals. #13, I read Slate each day. I first worked in a communist country in 1978...Then lived worked and fought against communism for two decades. Living in socialist democracies and seeing pretty simple examples of why it is bad for people [like me, frankly and probably you], is why it is easier to recognize dogma. From the former CZ to Central America, I saw it enslave people.
Truth? Indeed. I once read an article in Russian, it spoke of a race involving an American driver and a Soviet driver. The Soviet paper read: "The car driven by the Soviet came in second place. The Americans settled for coming in second to last." The Soviet paper failed to mention that there were only two cars in the race. Too many Slate articles are unsupported by sufficient fact. If it were just an op ed magazine, that would be fine, but they present such opinion as fact. That has soured many who would otherwise support them. People must be able to own property. That property must remain theirs, or be controlled by them. It is just that simple. While I will not go stuff myself; I will however stuff a few payroll checks - not many; about 60,000 worth. That young man, is something I am certain you have never done. Each will carry my signature and most of these guys will see 30 to 56% go out in taxes - on top of what the company pays. These are just direct taxes and they are too much. "Its the distribution, stupid!" It's about property, and a federal republic that is supposed to protect the rights of its people and companies as regards it. This is why Slate is being sold. I'd bet this, the checks businesses pay their people for their hard work are a lot bigger than what any government would pay them. |

Getting someone was never my point - never is. Helping them is, however.
And about giving, or sharing - that is critical, but best done voluntarily - not by a state trying to sustain its hold on a people. We support over 35 charities with free work, free hosting and free systems - we do not even claim any credits for these - this is how it should be. In one case we do, because we fund a store - so the billing is under our name - so we tell em who we are so people will not get confused abot the bill. And yeah, I and my small group are for real and don't have any more need to prove a thing. We do wish however, to share what little we know and have and may be, just may be, "matter" a little bit. That's all it is. |
