Apple dips after holding off on new iMacs, iPods | |

Apple Computer was widely expected to launch a new version of its iMac personal computer at a technology conference this week. However, the company came to the World Wide Developers Conference empty-handed for observers who had hoped to see another big announcement in the keynote address by Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple (AAPL). In morning trading on Tuesday, Apple shares dropped 76 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $31.73 one day after Jobs' appearance. Speculation had been high that Apple would show off either a remodeled, or upgraded, version of the iMac or the iPod digital music player. | ||

Halcyon, nothing impacted Apple's schedule... Analysts are simply morons. According to more reliable sources, Apple was happy with the foolish speculation because it created interest in the WWDC. But there plans are to release the iMac much later in the summer so that they can still maintain some of the high demand for the new product going to the school and holiday season. According to these same sources, manufacture is just beginning this month.
No, I see no reason to hold off on the iMac til Tiger. I would also point out that in the last six months, Apple has had over 50% growth in their stock valuation. It's very traditional to see a run up and then a sell off just prior to and after any major Apple events. I don't think anyone at Apple is too concerned about the effect of these pathetic rumors on their market value. |

Wow, that's a rarity. As I said above, they were just testing manufacture now. Apparently, they've discovered something wrong so they have now set a firm date (well.... September). They had ceased production of older models hoping the inventory would hold until the release... Now they know they will completely deplete inventory so they are warning people about it and have stopped taking orders. Interesting. Guess that might hurt the back to school sales, but oh well.... at least the analysts can stop speculating. It sounds like (as I had suspected) the iMac was planned for the last weeks of July or early weeks of August. This post was edited by sodajerk on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 18:57. |
