The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) said on Monday it had received an $8.8 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The money, which will be spread over five years, will help the British-based IPPF improve reproductive health and family planning services for women in more than 180 countries around the world.
``This grant will allow IPPF to translate the quality of care concept into reality,'' Dr Carlos Huezo, the director of the IPPF Medical and Technical Unit, said in a statement. ``The benefits of this project will have an effect not only within the IPPF network, but well beyond,'' he added. The founder of Microsoft (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) and his wife have donated more than $20 billion to the foundation which is dedicated to improving people's lives by sharing advances in health.
