Java and .NET are both great platforms on their own, but together, they are a practical necessity in the modern enterprise. With enterprise development market share of 35-40% each, it's fairly obvious that neither of these two platforms is "going away" any time soon. It's clear to even the most zealous Java or .NET devotee that working with both platforms is going to become the norm.
