Microsoft to challenge EU penalty | |

Microsoft this week will appeal against a landmark European Union antitrust decision and ask an EU court to suspend the order pending the appeal. "We believe we have a strong case," said Tom Brookes, a Microsoft spokesman in Brussels. The European Commission, the EU's executive arm, in March said Microsoft had illegally "bundled" its Windows Media Player audiovisual software with its Windows operating system and used its monopoly in the market for desktop personal-computer operating systems to illegally muscle its way into the market for software for more powerful computers called workgroup servers. | ||

| The ruling won't hold if they (The EU judicial system, or the prosecution) made a mistake. MS isn't so stupid to think that they could hold sway over the EU, and thus get what they want, unless they have something "in the bag," or threatening the EU with no more MS products, or something like that. |

Why not? They lobbied the US DOJ... You don't think that they are arrogant enough to think that they can pay off everyone? You think greedy people that can be bribed only live in the US? So only time will tell, let's hope that they are not as easily "lobbied" as the US DOJ. |

| Give it up zealot, they're a Monopoly, regardless of your own personal view on it. And why should anyone feel sorry for Microsoft if Sun, Oracle and Real did in fact as you say "lobby" the DOJ? It's obvious that Microsoft out-lobbied them, they've got plenty of money and power! |
