For the past few years, Microsoft Corp. (MSFT ) has vowed not to give Sony Corp. (SNE ) a head start in the next generation of video game consoles. It's a lesson Microsoft learned the hard way. Sony's PlayStation 2 had a 20-month jump on Microsoft's Xbox, which launched in November, 2001, and rode that lead to a 69% market share. Microsoft started work on the next version of Xbox right after the original shipped, to be ready when the next console cycle began. Said Microsoft's Xbox boss, Robert J. Bach, in a recent interview: "We'll be there when Sony is there." | ||

This would have made more sense if Halo 2 came out last Christmas and Halo 3 was released with Xbox2/Xbox next (what ever it is called). It might be a big mistake to release a new console and not a new flagship game. I also hearing different reports about it not being backwards compatible if it is not then this make even less sense.
On a different note there is nothing better than a modded xbox running xbox media center. my $.02 |

Halo 2 will be out soon, leaving time for a Halo 3 launch by X-Mas 2005 (Xbox-Next/Xenon launch timeframe), and many more games. Also, have you heard of, I don't know, coming up with a NEW game which could be a huge hit? You really do not make any sense at all. |

CPUGuy, clearly I don't have any inside information as to the release date of Halo2. But given the past date slipage(s) I would expect 3 to be released 2 years (give a or take a couple of months) after the release of 2. That would be mean roughly 2006.
Also, have you heard of, I don't know, coming up with a NEW game which could be a huge hit? anything is possible and I hope that they cause right now I only play 3-5 games mainly 1. Splinter cell 2. Halo (xbconnect) You really do not make any sense at all. not even $.02 ? :( |

Now I can see Microsoft trumping Sony if they have tons of Halo games in the pipeline. Much like Half life had several off shoots, I can only see the X-box 2(X-box Next) being a sucess if there are 5 or six different offshoots of the Halo2 franchise and then a ass-kicking Halo 3 to be the death blow to the Play Station 3.
Just think Sony announces PlayStation 3 launches on November 15 2006, and then Microsoft comes out and gives away a coupon for $99 off X-box2 with a free copy of Halo 3, Half Life 2, and Doom3 for a one day deal taking place on November 15, 2006. It'd be even sweeter if Microsoft would accept PlayStation 3 reserve coupons for the dicsount. Sadly, I can honestly say I don't think that'll happen, but it sure would mean that X-box 2 would be a success. This post was edited by Zeo01 on Tuesday, May 04, 2004 at 03:29. |
