To upgrade to Microsoft® Windows® Small Business Server 2003 from Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 or Windows 2000 Server, you must perform a server migration. A server migration includes installing Windows Small Business Server 2003 on a new computer, and then migrating data and settings. You can complete a server migration to either a retail installation of Windows Small Business Server 2003 or to a computer purchased from an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that was preinstalled with Windows Small Business Server 2003. This document describes the process for migrating from Small Business Server 2000 or Windows 2000 Server to Windows Small Business Server 2003. | ||

Activewin is quoting the condensed "summary" paragraph from the Microsoft Downloads page, which in turn was condensing a summary of the actual document. Try downloading the actual document and reading it.
Yes, you can do an in-place upgrade when coming from SBS2K or Win2K, as long as certain conditions are met. If you're trying to base your entire assessment of the situation on the 1-paragraph summary (which was copied & pasted in a hurry by people who didn't read the document either), then you should be aware we found big pools of Evian water on Mars. Also, the White House received a memo on September 10 saying, "Dear Georgie, I plan to fly two jumbo jets into the World Trade Center towers tomorrow morning. Love, Osama." |
