Microsoft developing new `light' version of Win XP | |

Thailand's People's PC project, initiated last year by the ICT Ministry, has been the genesis of a new operating system from Microsoft Corporation that is now under development, according to Microsoft Thailand Managing Director Andrew McBean. The new OS, as yet unnamed, but a new ``light'' addition to the Windows XP ``family'', will be released in limited, selected markets later this year and will offer reduced functionality when compared with Windows XP Professional and Home editions, he said. | ||

Could it possibly be a core OPERATING SYSTEM that's small and fast, without all the application junk that comes melded into a typical Windows install?

I would be VERY interested in an Operating System that does nothing but BE an operating system!
That way _I_ could choose exactly what software I want to run without un-necessary code lying around slowing things down, adding bugs, etc... There's a reason DOS was so reliable. It didn't do much except BE an Operating System :) TL |
