Report: Microsoft To Be Fined $125 Million In Europe | |

Microsoft will face a fine of about $100 million Euros -- roughly $125 million in U.S. dollars -- for its alleged anti-competitive behavior, a German newspaper reported on Monday. The software giant says it continues to negotiate with European regulators to settle the overseas antitrust case, but the $100 million Euro fine is part of a draft decision issued last week, according to Die Welt, a major daily Germany newspaper that cites unnamed sources in its Feb. 2 article. | ||

Well, what's the point of just fining them anyway? Is it going to change ANYTHING about Microsoft?
The whole point to the US actions against Microsoft was to remedy the problem of Microsoft simply having too much power in the industry (which is exactly what needed to be done), yet people called it merely a slap on the wrist, however, said people just do not understand that a mere punishment is not going to do anything unless you are a child under the age of 5. |

If trying to sell your wares makes you punishable then why don't we all become criminals.
If Microsoft never made it big would they be sued. I don't see any other big firm out there being sued. Let's all take a good look around us how do you get to be inspired. Please no flaming whatsover be constructive in your replies. Hence if i can sue MS why not if it saves me working 5 days a week to survive. |

Locke - I haven't shopped at WalMart in like 10 years. Not just an bad company, their stores and product suck.
HexJam - Enron was manipulating markets. They caused the energy crisis in California, they were manipulating their books to misreport profits, etc. Trying to compare Microsoft to Enron would be like comparing Patton to Hitler. Since when did controlling 2.8 percent of all OS sales in one year count as a monopoly? Oh wait, you can actually be productive on windows and its more successful (for a reason). Depends on the market. Most special effect studios dropped MS/Mac/Unix like a hat once Linux had matured to the point they needed it to. Linux you cant, it still trying to be everything all at once but its simply an etch-a-sketch platform. True, but that "freedom" is what alot of Linux users love about Linux. Freedom of choice, the freedom to fully configure your OS the way you want, simply and easily. |

Ummm. I'm not Apples share is that high. Linux is at 1%. We've been through this before. Linux accounted for 2.8% of all desktop OS sales in 2002. 2.8% of all sales in a given year is not enough installations of Linux to make a dent in the Google Zeitgeist numbers. And Microsoft is not really a monopoly in the classic sense. Hmmm, Going by the definition in the dictionary I would tend to agree with you. However, Microsoft did abuse their position of market dominance in their business dealing with OEMs, etc, which is why they were labelled a monopoly (that and the left thought it would be fun to split MS into pieces). |
