Without a doubt, Linux has become fully accepted as a powerful, scalable and stable platform for enterprise deployments. Somewhat surprisingly, however, the cost of deploying Linux is getting pretty close to the cost of deploying some other enterprise platforms. What's that, you say? The high cost of Linux? Linux is free, you fool. And don't give me any of that high TCO garbage, either. | ||

Um... I have a doubt. I have many doubts, actually. What are some major high-end enterprise deployments of Linux on the scale of Windows DataCenter server or Sun SunFire's or IBM mega-boxes? |

there is google (amazon too?) Yahoo runs on BSD.
Linux grids are getting very popular for scientific number crunching and thus there are linux clusters on the top supercomputer lists now. I'm not talking about clustered Linux boxes that fail constantly and need to be clustered into huge groups to do the job of one or two windows boxes. I'm talking about some heavy hitting, huge load, high uptime boxes. I don't think I've seen Linux ever mentioned in a truly enterprise use. I'm talking airline shortest path routing, heavy accounting reconciliation, forecasting, etc |
