Oracle, IBM, Microsoft – The Dominance Game | |

...This brings me to Microsoft, which has been producing some neat software in recent years, but all of it is Windows based. I said earlier in the year that Microsoft will have to port its products to Linux eventually and I stand by this. There are now far too many vendors that see Linux as key. Oracle is one of course, as you may have gathered from its "unbreakable Linux" campaign. But so is Intel (the word Lintel is now bandied about with increasing frequency) and so is HP. Most of the software market is also very Linux friendly and of course IBM, being sued over Linux, is widely regarded as a Linux champion. Only Dell appears neutral, but Dell will inevitably follow the market as it develops. | ||

| Dell has been selling Linux boxes for at least three years now. Microsoft has been ignoring UNIX and Linux for 27 years now. (No, I don't really count Xenix, but if we count it then we'll reduce that number to about 20 years.) IBM, HP, Oracle and hundreds of other software and hardware vendors have sold and coding *n*x solutions during that same time period. What has happened that would make Microsoft stop ignoring the *n*x world and start writing software for that platform? So far as I can see, no such event has yet ocurred or is likely to occur in the close to near future. |

Gee, more, "I love Linux" drivel. I guess it must be lost on the author that Linux is going no where on the desktop - 1% by last count - and that Microsoft gains server OS market share year in and year out - now 57% of all OS server software sold.
By the way, the only thing unbreakable about Oracle is its revenue and profits - static for the last five years while steadily losing market share to both IBM and Microsoft in relational database management software. Meantime, IBM has gotten out of the consumer PC space altogether, turned over mfd. of business PCs to contractors, sold their disk drive business, and "invested" far more in Linux (by their own estimated $1 billion dollars) then they have reported having made in revenue NOT profits from "Linux" sales in the last three years. And to top it off, they now have hanging over their heads a $1 billion dollar plus law suite for pilfering SCO owned code. Yeah, the time is right for Microsoft to write code for Linux - yeah right!!! lol |

<sarcasm>I'll just be glad when RedHat and Apple merge, and legitimize each other. And then start toward their destiny of dominating Microsoft, IBM, and Oracle. Oh, happy day... when I have the rock-hard stability of linux and the pretty colors of apple.</sarcasm>
