Microsoft is "investing heavily" in web search as an important and potentially lucrative market, Christopher Payne, the company's executive in charge of search, said on Thursday. "On the information side of the house, there's no question that search is the cornerstone of our strategy. We're investing heavily in this space," Payne, a vice president for Microsoft's MSN Internet unit, said at Jupitermedia's Search Engine Strategies Conference & Expo. The conference was held this week in San Jose, California. | ||

| If MS uses their own search bot behind the scenes then all is well. As to a stand alone search tool (i.e. Google) they face an uphill road! the term Google or Googling is used in everyday speach and is equated with searching. |

Have you guys seen that Google calculator thing? It's SO cool.
Goto google, and type: radius of the earth * 5 in feet or 25 ounces in grams or 60 pounds in newtons Try and think other ones up too. It' crazy what it will recognize. |

svenllr - Microsoft surpassed OS/2 with Windows NT 3.51 in terms of stability and performance, and Windows 95 in terms of usability.
I used OS/2 up to version 3.0. I think I gave up sometime after Fix Pack 25. Right after the release of NT4, OS/2 had nothing compelling to offer. "Microsoft doesn't *make* anything better, they **buy** the better and brand it Microsoft. " I really could care less. This isn't religion, this is business. The only thing I care about is if it works and someone reliable is there to support it. |

Well, lets look at all the other evil companies that do the exact same thing. Apple - oh you didn't know? they bought most of the iXXX products and rebranded them. Do some research, you'll see I'm right. Dell - basically they just put together the pieces of other companies, and slap a dell sticker on it. <sarcasm>How terrible of them</sarcasm> Home Depot - they dont "make" anything either. Kroger - they don't "make" anything either. They just put a big Kroger label on the hard work of others. DONT BE BLINDED BY HATRED/JEALOUSLY/PLAYAHATIN. Think for yourself. |

rickbtex... i was pointing out the absurdity of #14's comment. Notice the way I addressed "svenllr" at the beginning.
My point is that Microsoft is just like many other companies. Yet, theres a group of folks that hate each and every action MS takes. |

This is off topic, but has anyone else noticed that ebay has been down since late friday afternoon??? Anyone got any ideas about what's going on? They are primarily a Microsoft shop so did they get taken down by so big??
