Analyst: No Longhorn Before 2006 | |

Microsoft (Quote, Company Info) may still be aiming for a 2005 delivery of Longhorn, the next iteration of the Windows operating system, but one analyst says don't hold your breath. Joe Wilcox, lead Microsoft analyst for Jupiter Research (whose parent company also owns this Web site) said Microsoft's efforts to align all of its products with the Longhorn operating system -- and its new Windows Future Storage (WinFS) file system -- will force it to push public release of the OS back to 2006. | ||

Mr. Dee, I think that article about SP2 getting pushed back to 2004 was a misprint--everyone else seems to think it will be late 2003.
n4cer, I'm also hesitant to believe that it's a new file system. All signs I've heard are pointing to it being a service. Do you have other indications that it will be a true DB file system? |

m00: I'm getting sick of hearing people say this... the UI looks NOTHING like ANY MacOS, and in fact, no Windows UI has EVER looked like a Mac one.
monkey: are you joking or being serious? If serious, then I suggest you get your head checked.... If making a joke then I suggest you pick up a book on humor :) I, personally, can not wait to get my hands on Longhorn beta. |

I can confirm this is THE same Joe Wilcox as that prick of a reporter at C|Net. I had more than one email argument with him. Its nice to know he's gone from producing "unbiased" cnet articles to being an analyst.
Joe was wrong in every Microsoft antitrust article he ever wrote... so I guess that track record qualifies him for his new job. Jeez! This post was edited by mooresa56 on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at 23:43. |
