| That's unfortunate. OE is a decent mail reader with only part of the bloat of Outlook and it has a decent newsreader for basic news posting. |

| I have found OE to be my favorite newsreader because of it's interface. And OE isn't going anywhere. It will still work on all of our existing systems! There is not an expiration date. The only people that will see it go will be those who upgrade to Windows Longhorn, which will not support OE. |

I use to think also but once MSN cancelled the free Calendar I started using Outook 2002/XP. And to be honest I like Outlook and the extra features that OE didn't have. Once I made the registry entry that allows Outlook to show mail in text and not HTML all was good.

| Unfortunate but not a surprise: the past 2 or 3 years almost no new features have been added to OE. Leach's (ok, not making any jokes here..) comments don't rule out a successor so we'll probably see a new OE as soon as someone figures out how to design a secure version of SMTP that makes spam impossible. :) |

| There was an article about 2 weeks ago that said Microsoft is currently designing a new newsreader, based on some stuff that came out of their research labs. Unfortunately, I can't find a link... So, yes, there probably will be a replacement, hopefully built right into Longhorn like the HTML rendering engine |

Is Microsoft trying to make everyone sign up for MSN and use their Hotmail?
Don't they realize that the majority doesn't use any online service like AOL or MSN. Anyway, If it means that I stay put with XP instead of upgrading to Longhorn because I have to use MSN and hotmail... then I'll stay put with XP. I really hate ppl trying to push what I can or cannot use down my throat. Microsoft has baited people with their free software and now they are realing in with their mucho dollar applications and doing away with the freebees. | I've been using Outlook since 1997. I guess I don't know what to think. I'd prefer that they upgraded OE to include all the security features now in Outlook 2003 beta. |
